I’d like to thank you for stopping by my web site and for taking the time to learn a bit more about myself and about my music.

I am amazed and overwhelmed by the positive feedback and the incredible response my solo Album “Good Life” has received up till now.

The creative process of making this album has been quite a journey for me and when I look back at all the rough ideas, the initial scribbles, the numerous melodies logged on my answering machine, it feels amazing to finally have it in my hands.

At the end of it all I can honestly say that I am extremely proud of this CD and I really hope you will enjoy it!

October 2011

Not sure what happened or how we can possibly be in October already?
October is my birth-month and it always feels like this is the start of “my” new year.

My summer was amazing and I enjoyed all the shows in Europe very much. I want to thank Ilona Damiecka (Piano) and Piotr Lemanczyk (Bass) for bringing me to sing in Poland for the first time as well as Hans Wetterberg for once again inviting me to sing in the beautiful Swedish capital city “Stockholm”.

My third solo CD featuring Canadian Jazz trumpeter Brad Turner is gearing up for it’s 2012 release. I am in the process of planning my CD release tour so please check back on the dates soon. I am very excited about this tour and I will have an amazing band with me consisting of some of Canada’s best instrumentalists Chris Andrew (Keys) Kodi Hutchinson (Bass), Tyler Hornby (Drums) and Aaron Young (Guitar).

The album has been produced and recorded here in Calgary with a few fine guest artists that i won't reveal quite yet. I am very happy with the final product and will promise to have to you ASAP!

October - November 2009

Hi Friends!

Winter is here very early this year and I’m gearing up to go back in the studio and record another album. (Most likely it will happen in the very early part of the New Year)

The snow and grey skies make for “the” perfect time to be creative, so I will for sure take advantage of it and try to write as much as possible since going outside isn’t all that appealing right now.

As for “Sillan & Young”, our recently recorded EPK is ready to view on my “video” page, please check it out and let me know what you think! A special big thank you to Cameron Smith, The fantastic camera crew as well as our live audience!

August - September 2009

I’m back in Canada after spending most of the summer in Europe with the perfect ratio of work and vacation!
One of many highlights was performing in my hometown Borås, Sweden. It had been many years since I last set foot on that stage and on this particular summer night the weather gods were on my side and brought me a record-breaking audience. So with that being said, Thank you Borås!

I also very recently had the opportunity to be part of a Live Music Video produced by the one and only Cameron Smith. The video will be posted here on my website very soon, so hang tight and check back on that one, it will be good!

It’s been an amazing and very busy summer and there are still so many exciting things on the horizon to look forward too!

My band project 'Sillan & Young' is gearing up to release our sophomore album 'Under My feet' and we need your help with a big decision!

Under My Feet

In order for us to really maximize the marketing resources around this CD release we need to pick one song from the album that will be released to radio stations across Canada and beyond!

We have set up a voting system on our "My Space" site and we need you to take a listen to the song options and place your vote on the song that you think will best represent us in a national Radio release!

July 2008

I can’t even begin to describe what an amazing month I’ve experienced, but I’ll try my best to sum up the highlights for you!

I had the great pleasure of playing a show with the Norwegian group “Beady Belle’ during the Calgary Jazz festival this June. I’ve been a fan of the group for a number of years now and it was amazing to meet them & to hear them live.

The following morning my band and I headed out on a very early flight to go play at the ‘Montreal Jazz festival’. This turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences in my life and definitely a highlight in my performance history! The festival was beautiful, the whether was perfect and the audience stretched as far as my eyes could reach in all directions. I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity and I will never forget this night!

I want to thank all of you who came out to the show and bought the CD’s!

A big thank you goes out to the hard working staff at the “Best Buy’ tent as well the organizers and volunteers of the festival. Last but not least a ‘HUGE’ thank you to ‘G and crew’ for doing an incredible job on the promotional end of things!

July 2007

Greetings from the Maritimes!!

If you are not familiar with the area I’m referring to the very beautiful east coast of Canada. I am here with my band ‘Sillan & Young’ and we are getting ready to play at the Halifax & St John’s Jazz Festivals, it’s hot & humid and it’s wonderful to be close to the ocean again. I am a BIG seafood lover and I’m definitely in my ‘happy place’ here.

After this tour I am heading over to London, UK & Sweden for a few weeks and after that to Montreal for a show with ‘ UNCOVERED’.

It’s going to be a great summer of music and traveling and I’ll fill you all in on the events as I go.

I have as of recently taken on another ‘Gig’ as a radio host for radio station California 103.1, based out of Calgary, Alberta. I am hosting a live music show called ‘IN STUDIO’ along with fellow vocalist Kathy Shane. Our show will be broadcast every Sunday night from 6-8pm.

For more information on the show and if you’d like to have your music showcased on our show please go to the radio stations website.

Have a great Summer!

May & June 2007

Today was the first official recording session for my Christmas album and it went amazing. Although it’s a bit odd to be singing about snow and mistletoe in the midst of summer but I can’t wait to have it all done for you soon.

My summer is going to very busy and I will keep you posted on the upcoming events as they happen. I will be making my first trip out to the ‘very’ east coast of Canada.  I’ve been told that it will remind me of my home country Sweden and since I will not be able to travel to back home this year, this will be a great experience.

Have a wonderful month and I’ll talk to you soon!
Johanna

April 2007

I’m writing this little monthly summary from Edmonton as I’m here for a one-night show at the ‘Yard-bird suite’ in celebration of their 50th anniversary. I know this may not sound like a lot to you Europeans who check in on my site from time to time, but in a province that’s only 100 years old, a 50 year old “anything” is worth celebrating.

Anyways, on the recording front, I’m keeping busy with preparing for the recording of my Christmas album and lucky for me there is still plenty of snow on the ground.

I also recently recorded a version of ‘Human Nature’ for my friend Sandro Dominelli’s latest disc called ‘Passages’. You can Check out Sandro’s website and music at the following link:  http://www.sandrodominelli.com

Happy Easter!

March 2007

Its kind of funny to sit here in the month writing Christmas music…yes that’s right Christmas music!!!
(Luckily, it’s still very much winter here in Calgary)

Well friends, I’m excited to announce that I will finally be recording a Christmas CD with my song-writing partner & pianist Chris Andrew. This is a project the two of us have wanted to do for a looooooong time, but with our crazy schedules and with being located in different cities it has never been possible until now!

We are going to be combining some holiday traditionals with some of our own original works (they are in the making as I write this). This is the first time I’ve written Christmas material and it’s both fun and challenging, and by the way, if you do have suggestions on songs we should cover that aren’t your typical “Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer’, please email me, I’d love to hear from you!

As for my band Sillan & Young’s upcoming CD the release date, it has been moved to June 2nd but will be worth the wait…I promise!

February 2007

Winter is here in all its glory and it’s a productive time for ‘song writing’! It’s to cold to go out and get distracted, so lots of time for creating new-music! My band ‘Sillan & Young’ is getting ready to release our new CD in a few months, so the new cold-inspired inspiration comes in handy in the finishing stages. I am very excited, the tracks are sounding great, if you are new to this other project of mine, please check us it at http://www.sillanyoung.com
I also finally had a moment to sit down and get my long overdue ‘My Space’ page up and running! If you’d like to check it out, please do so at http://www.myspace.com/johannasillanpaa

As for my solo Album ‘Good Life’, I had another interview/review published on the American ‘Jazz police’ website. This is a website that gets about 100,00 hits per month…so go ‘Good life’ go! If you’d like to check out the good words written by Joe Montague, click the link below!

take for granted, so again, THANK YOU!!!

“Good Life” is now available for purchase online at CD BABY as well as digitally on ITUNES.

The song ‘One the Other side’ had a recent UK & US Radio debut on Steve Quirk’s smooth jazz radio show Smooth FM.  Radio presenter Steve Quirk from the UK jumped on the CD right away and has been playing it on his Fusion Flavours show in the UK as well as across Europe on Smooth FM (www.smoothfm.com)  Steve aired the track "On the other side" on his syndicated US radio show on Sunday February 26th 2006 with instant response.

Here’s what Steve Quirk had to say about “Good Life”
-"As soon as I discovered the CD, It was a joy, I loved it!

It has a bluesy Erika Badu meets Billy Holliday groove and Johanna's voice is silky, classy, sexy and sophisticated. The outstanding tracks on the CD for me are, the mellow "Sometimes", the funky "Suck it up" the groovy "Hush" and the floater "My oh my". The two big tracks that I see having "massive potential" across radio are, the beautiful and sublime "Thank you", and the excellent "On the other side".  Both have that class and sophistication of Norah Jones tune and potential to be HUGE!"  Check out Steve and his show FUSION FLAVOURS at www.fusionflavours.com

FM Radio station California 103.1 added 4 songs from “Good Life” to their play list!
Johanna will also be performing live on Jonathan Love’s IN STUDIO show on Sunday night March 19th as well as on April 16th. Both shows start at 7- Midnight local Calgary time.
